Work day at the parsonage

Sadly, the formerly beautiful Douglas firs that shaded both the front and the back of our parsonage have become diseased by a fungus that seems to be sweeping New England (and probably elsewhere).  Before they came crashing down on the building, we decided to have our Memorial Day weekend Sunday service at the house and then devote ourselves to taking them down.  A mighty task for sure, but with everyone pitching in, we accomplished most of what we set out to do.

The Events of Sunday and Monday:

The service, with Pastor Bob Brachel and Pastor George Collar, and a small portion of the worship team.  Then we took in new members, with Marlon Green officiating.  They didn't even run away when there was work to do!

Then we got down to it.  There were trees to cut down, branches to strip off and haul, and food to cook and eat.  At the end of the day, there was only one dead tree left standing out front.  We'll get it tomorrow, because now it's time to go home to crash and burn!

The next day, a smaller but determined crew met up to finish the job.  The remaining tree still needed to come down and be stripped, some of the trees from yesterday still needed to be stripped, and the branches all needed to be stacked for chipping.

We didn't manage to get to the trees in the back, but we do feel really blessed that we accomplished what we wanted to out front and nobody got hurt!  Praise God!
